Marc Sedam, associate vice provost for innovation and new ventures at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and managing director of UNHInnovation, has been selected as the chair-elect of AUTM, the leading international association supporting the commercialization of academic research. The position is a three-year term on the AUTM Executive Committee and matriculates to the chair position (currently held by Richard Chylla of Michigan State University) at the conclusion of the 2020 AUTM Annual Meeting in San Diego. The chair serves as the official spokesperson for the AUTM Board of Directors and provides strategic leadership in all board functions.
“It’s an honor to have been selected by my colleagues as the chair-elect and I’m proud to represent UNH in this role,” Sedam says. “I have been a member of AUTM for over 20 years and both the people and content within AUTM have influenced just about every thought I’ve ever had about commercializing UNH intellectual property. During my term, I will continue to communicate the global relevance and value of technology transfer to society.”
Marc has over 25 years of experience creating and commercializing intellectual property, and an extensive background in intellectual asset management, licensing, and start-up formation. In addition to his position at UNH, he was the founding director of the UNH Peter T. Paul Entrepreneurship Center and currently serves as the executive director of the New Hampshire Innovation Research Center, New Hampshire’s only translational research funding program. Marc is also the principal investigator of UNH’s National Science Foundation I-Corps Site. Prior to his role at UNH, he was the chief operating officer of Qualyst, Inc. (now part of BioIVT), a startup company created from university technology.
