The New Hampshire Innovation Research Center (NHIRC) is excited to share that Design Mentor and Graphicast, Inc. received Granite State Technology Innovation Grants in the latest round of funding from the NHIRC. The funding enables the companies to collaborate with New Hampshire-based colleges and universities to help turn their research, conceptualization, and product development into economic assets. The NHIRC program, administered by UNHInnovation, supports projects under development in the private sector. Projects vary from proof-of-concept to substantial product or process design. Companies are required to provide matching dollars or services in an effort to improve leverage of NHIRC dollars.
Design Mentor, Inc. designs and develops medical devices, including the VentriFlo™ True Pulse pump, designed to mimic characteristics of the human heart. The system delivers a true physiologic pulse to patients where current short-term pumps can’t, improving perfusion, reducing complications, shortening patient stays, and saving hospitals money. The NHIRC matching grant will support continued collaboration with Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering, Geisel School of Medicine, and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Successful completion of these collaborative studies will provide critical information needed to help secure additional funding through NIH SBIR programs as well as investors.
Graphicast, Inc., is a supplier of zinc aluminum alloy machined and as-cast parts, serving a range of industries including medical and diagnostic equipment manufacturers. The NHIRC grant will support collaboration with the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College for the development of a matrix of structure/property data for parts produced by different materials on several different production platforms. The objective is to create a comparative database of process economics and material properties of 3D printed metal parts using the two major competing printing processes. This will provide economic and performance data for Graphicast to make an investment decision on entering the 3D printed metal part market.
