Overview
Most power supply options force a balance of low efficiency, low noise supplies with high efficiency, high noise supplies in light of a given application. This fully resonant power supply bridges the gap between these choices by delivering both high efficiency and low noise. The very low noise characteristic permits use in applications without the penalties of mass and size necessary for shielding switching supplies. Compared to existing power supplies, this design enables reduced weight and size constraints, reduced power requirements, and a reduction of heat stress on the individual components of the power supply. The supply can be used in a broad range of applications from conventional low voltage applications to high voltage (>10kV) applications in medicine and Space, as mass spectrometers, X-ray, floating supplies, and other sensitive applications. This power supply has already been implemented and flown on several NASA missions; it is ripe to meet the needs of other rugged, lightweight, low noise applications like solar energy conversion, medical instrumentation, and more.
