UNHInnovation recently added a state-of-the art DATRON neo CNC milling machine to the Makerspace at the UNH ECenter. The new machine, which can mill materials like metal, wood, foam, and acrylic, allows UNH students, faculty, and staff to build real working prototypes of their ideas.
Following on the heels of last fall’s highly successful Aerospace and Defense Technology Day, UNHInnovation hosted another industry specific event focused on promoting innovation and industry/university collaboration with companies interested in data research, networking, and analytics. UNH Data Day was held on April 6th in Huddleston Hall and brought over 50 representatives from data-related businesses to meet and network with UNH faculty whose research could be of interest to the data field.
The University of New Hampshire was one of 14 U.S. colleges and universities selected by the National Science Foundation’s National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation (Epicenter) to join its program. The Epicenter will examine and implement best practices to fully incorporate innovation and entrepreneurship into undergraduate engineering education. The selected teams will join a community of 36 institutional teams that are already in the program.
Early in November 2015, I had the opportunity to attend the Lean LaunchPad® (LLP) Educators Seminar in Santa Cruz, California with 79 other both international and domestic educators, tech transfer managers, licensing personnel, higher education staff, and incubator/accelerator CEOs. Not only was the location absolutely beautiful, but more importantly I learned much that can be applied in many areas at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and in my position with UNH.
Patent protection rewards an inventor with a 20-year monopoly for the public disclosure of their invention. In order to be granted a patent, an invention must meet the statutory requirements of Title 35 of the U.S. Code (35 U.S.C.), which are: patentable subject matter, adequate disclosure, usefulness, novelty, and non-obviousness.

New Hampshire Innovation Research Center (NHIRC) is excited to share that Turbocam Energy Solutions, LLC, a Dover-based affiliate of Turbocam International, is collaborating with researchers from the University of New Hampshire to evaluate the feasibility of replacing forging and casting with an additive manufactured alloy.
Quaterrylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon (essentially a small piece of graphene) with many applications in organic photovoltaics, organic thin-film transistors, and organic light emitting diodes due to its photophysical and semiconducting properties. Despite the unique value of quaterrylene, the current availability of quaterrylene is limited. Existing methods of synthesizing quaterrylene are expensive, time consuming, and result in low yields. In addition, these methods are only suitable for small-scale reactions.
