UNH Receives SBA Grant to Help New Hampshire Small Businesses

UNH has received a $125,000 grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration, one of 24 organizations awarded grants aimed at aiding small businesses, particularly those that are women-owned, rural-based and socially-economically disadvantaged. The funding comes from the SBA’s Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership program, which seeks to improve outcomes in the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. UNH-based Entrepreneurs Launch Sustainable Clothing Brand on Kickstarter

A team of entrepreneurs from UNH Cooperative Extension have launched a new sustainable brand on Kickstarter called Nature Groupie Gear, selling products such as t-shirts, mugs and sweatshirts.  UNH Extension will use the $20,000 in funds raised through Kickstarter to start a nonprofit business allowing nature enthusiasts across the country to show their appreciation for the outdoors while also supporting the work of Nature Groupie.  Read More

Report ranks UNH high in turning research into social and economic impact

UNH is the sixth most productive mid-sized university in the U.S. at converting research funding into economic impact, according to a recent report released by the George W. Bush Institute and the Opus Faveo Innovation Development consulting firm. UNH ranked just behind Princeton and Carnegie Mellon universities in the mid-sized category and ranked in the top 100 of all U.S. universities for innovation impact regardless of size or research budget. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter and several other outlets highlighted the outcome of an alleged copyright infringement case, Sinclair v. Ziff Davis, in which professional photographer Stephanie Sinclair sued Mashable and its parent company Ziff Davis for using a photo from one of Sinclair’s Instagram posts in an article on the Mashable website. The court ruled in favor of Mashable, who used Instagram’s API to embed Sinclair’s images, which she had posted under the “public” setting on her account.
